Photographic Holdings in the Krupp Historical Archive
Founded in 1905, the Krupp Historical Archive is the oldest German business archive and one of the most significant institutions of its kind. It preserves the legacy of the Krupp family and their company which is closely related to the history of the 19th and 20th centuries. The owner of the archive is the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation.
The photographic collections are of international importance: both the approximately 2.5 million photographs and films on around 5,000 reels date back to these media’s early days. They comprehensively document aspects of economic, social, and technological histories, as well as military and political histories. Researchers from around the world use these archives, but they are also open to media professionals, museums, authorities, and private individuals. The photographic collections are partially accessible in digitized form via the “Archives in North Rhine-Westphalia” network.
